Solve your problems with Flash and Firefox on Ubuntu

The relationship between Flash and Linux (and other OS) is truly complex. In recent days discussing inclusion in Ubuntu by default. To this we must add the problems that most users find us everyday with Flash (search in Google Firefox+Flash+Error, you'll find about 40 million entries).

Since I installed Firefox 4.0, my problems with Flash, have increased as playing videos from YouTube, it became almost impossible. So I thought because we do not try to Gnash.

Before the change, do a Google search. I also looked in add-ons, and that is where, by chance came the first of the supplements, and the original subject of this article. The second, as interesting or more than the first, I found going to write this article.

The first of the supplements is Flash-Aid. What makes this supplement is based on the architecture of your system and your version of Ubuntu installed select the best for playing Flash plugin in your Firefox. Neither more nor less.

At the start it has been commissioned to uninstall the plugin that I had selected and installed the one he has given more efficient. And it works.

To install Flash-Aid, Clicking on the link below Flash-Aid that directs you to xpi, or visit the page from Firefox Plugin Flash-Aid.

Once installed, restart as usual (it is a pity that this does not work as Chromium) and go to Add-ons> Extensions:

Preferences by clicking on Flash-Aid:

First of all you have to do is click the Test button (this is the most recommended). This will run the test but no operation is performed. In this way you should check if the unit or all goes well.

Later (or earlier if you are an impatient like me) you click the Execute button, the extension creates and launches a script in a terminal to take the necessary action. Obviously you will be asked your password, to make a "sudo", because the process requires administrative privileges.

You got it, now enjoy ... If you stay still not happy with this solution, one that gives us the same author, is to replace the Flash playback. This extension is FlashVideoReplacer

This add-ons, you can replace the video playback using several methods. The original method, which gives its name to the extent, replaced the video without your account (we neither you learn). Basically what it does is replace the "flash object" with a normal video and plays it as a mp4 or flv file, depending on availability.

Currently, with version 2.0, FlashVideoReplacer offers other alternative methods, such as to allow the videos to open a new tab or new window or through an external video playback. The possibility of using these methods depends on the plugin and to support the player.

To complete the benefits, lets you download videos from the menu:

Some features of this supplement, extracted from the page of the author are:
  • As I indicated earlier, several replacement methods
  • Possibility that asks you which method you want to replace it before
  • Facility to download videos
  • Configuration download directory
  • Detection of YouTube videos and Vimeo.
  • Automatic detection of the best plugin compatible, like the best player.
  • Tool for checking compatibility.
  • Automatic redirection to WebM player in YouTube whenever possible.
  • Control the playback quality on YouTube
  • Ability to prioritize mp4 on flv when available.
To install this add you to click FlashVideoReplacer or visit page spread ,To download it from there and see their features.

Once installed, reboot, and as in the case of Flash-Aid, go to Add-ons> Extensions:

Clicking on preferences, and you will see the following window:

You see, here you have to set all the properties listed above:
  • The rate of substitution
  • The time for replacement. You can increase the time and choose the video itself which is the type of substitution to be performed:
  • The possibility of using WebM
  • The possibility that the videos will play automatically or expected
  • A combo with different types of substitution
  • Where to Download
  • Sites that enable this snap
  • The quality of the video and if prefer mp4 on flv
  • And finally alerts and information errors, through the notification system of Ubuntu.
With this we have two possibilities for improving interaction between Firefox and Flash. And dramatically improve your experience surfer.

How to install Firefox 4 in Fedora 13 and 14 and Aldos 1.3 and 1.4.

For those who are too impatient to wait for Fedora 15 or Aldos 1.5, is a relatively simple way of install Firefox 4. It should be noted that this involves using YUM stores of Remi Which have some nature experimental, their packages are very stable.

The only problem I encountered when using the Firefox 4 package of Remi, is that failure respect formatted text to copy and paste. Example: copy text from Kompozer, BlueGriffon or another window of Firefox, and paste it into an editing window tools such as Fsckeditor, not very pleasant for some, it sticks to the plain text, and line changes and unnecessary indentations.

Step 1: Support current profile of Firefox 3.6.x.
cd ~
tar Jcvf respaldo-perfil-firefox36.tar.xz .mozilla/firefox
Step 2: Install the RPM package from YUM store of Remi

To Fedora 14 and Aldos 1.4:
rpm -Uvh
To Fedora 13 and Aldos 1.3:
rpm -Uvh
Step 3: Install Firefox 4.

Note that this step means that Firefox 3.6.x, the official version and stable support from Fedora and Aldos will be replaced by Firefox 4.0, and that any problem or fault arising from your use later, can only be addressed in Remi forums. Remi stores are turned off by default, so you have to run yum as follows:

yum --enablerepo=remi install firefox
Step 4: Run Firefox 4.

Firefox 4 transparently replaces the version of Firefox 3.6.x, so you just have to click on the Firefox launcher.
If something goes wrong, and want to turn Firefox 3.6.x.

If you wish to return to the previous version, just enough to uninstall xulrunner2 and firefox:

yum remove xulrunner2 firefox
And since YUM stores of remi are off by default, you just have to reinstall Firefox with yum:
yum -y install firefox
To restore the original profile used with Firefox 3.6, just run the following:
cd ~
tar Jxvf respaldo-perfil-firefox36.tar.xz

Speed up Internet browsing with Ubuntu

When in your browser, type the address of a page such as and press "Enter", your machine is connected to a DNS server, And asks what IP address is Then the DNS server will reply:

You can also ask the DNS server for this open the terminal and write:
Now let the subject matter, to understand the reason for the acceleration.

Every time you enter the page, questions to the DNS server which is the IP address. But even more to say, if the page is images that are not located on the same server (which is most common), then more of the same. But normally, the pages do not change IP, then, that you want to ask, learn it by heart and in this way is faster. Well here is where dnsmasq. Dnsmasq is a server (DNS, DHCP) very light also is expected to act as a DNS server, cache it, that is pairs of values saves address - IP, to avoid having to repeat the query again, this time saving .

Before going further, try running the following command twice:
dig | grep "Query time"
see that the first can give you around 150 milliseconds and the second around 50 milliseconds. This depends on the DNS server you have configured, as I indicated earlier. I for example I have set Google's DNS servers so that the response rate is 1 millisecond. As I already said that this is not so concerned

The issue is that approximately question, you can save about 50 milliseconds, if over 20 it is already a second that is good thing.

Installation and configuration:

The installation is simple, since dnsmasq is in the Ubuntu repositories, so to install it, simply clicking dnsmasq or in a terminal:

sudo apt-get install dnsmasq

Configuration is also very simple. At the Ubuntu menu> Preferences> Network Connections

Select the network you use. If you use more, you have to do in several. And you click the Edit button

In the window that appears you go to the tab "IPv4 settings" (that until we change to IPv6). Now you have to do two steps:
  1. Select as a method: Only automatic address (DHCP)
  2. DNS servers,,

The is for dnsmasq, and the other two ( and are the Google's DNS serversThat solve very quickly. You can also use other, that it is your choice.

The final configuration step is to restart the service:

sudo service network-manager restart
Now that you have installed and configured, repeats the previous test. That is, run the following command a few times:
dig | grep "Query time"
Now you'll have the second gives 0. This is because the address has been stored, and the second time has not made the query.

You see something really simple, and that does not take you long. Try it and you tell me.

Gnome 3 ready to go the week of 4 April

On 22 March appeared on the mailing list, the announcement of a upgrade Gnome Shell ,The particular 2.91.92. The numbering and aimed to be in the pre-release version 3, news that in itself, regardless of developments, not contribute more.

The really important thing was a few lines down, first announced code freeze Gnome 3, Which would not be changed unless serious errors and then stated, without specifying the day, that Week of 4 April would be the release date of Gnome 3. The email is from Owen Taylor of RedHat.
At this point GNOME Shell freezing is code for the version of GNOME 3.0; only correct significant errors detected from today (26 March) and the release of Gnome 3 the week of 4 April
So at least 6 days and 13 at most, in response to this communication will be available to all users of this desktop environment Anticipated Version 3. The changes it brings are a great leap for the 2.x series and we will see the level of acceptance that you have.

It came time to the truth, Firefox 4 vs Google Chrome

No doubt Firefox 4 has signified a major milestone in the history of the Web browser by adding new features and improvements, but Is it enough to compete with the current Google Chrome?

  • User Interface: At this point I must say that Firefox also has opted for minimalism Chrome tax since its inception, a trend that also continued to Opera and Internet Explorer (in fact I find it more like Opera), however under section adapting the unique menu of Firefox is not enough and often forced to return to the previous menu.
  • Speed: As we know the engines are implemented in two different browsers but WebKit is considered the best for now, Gecko has greatly improved to the point of minimum notice a difference in many cases. On the other hand hardware acceleration support is a point where Firefox took advantage as it applies to all platforms Chrome unlike where this feature is for Windows and disabled by default.
  • Web Support: Firefox from the beginning has supported Web standards and not surprisingly, both support HTML5 and CSS 3 have improved, any more than is the inclusion of WebGL support for 3D animations. In the Acid 3 test has significantly improved scoring a 94/100 score, pretty good, but is yet to reach 100% of compatibility achieved thanks to WebKit primarily Chrome.
  • Features: Among the features mentioned include the incorporation of Sync, although point out as impractical compared to the timing that offers Chrome, Otherwise not much was said about other good features like the new design of the Manager, the ability to set Web applications in the tab bar, or "landscape" to manage multiple tabs.
On the side of the shortcomings or weaknesses of Firefox mentioned the poor implementation of Sync we mentioned, as well as the lack of a system of separate processes for each tab and plugin available as of Chrome, which has proved vital to the stability of this browser and it will surely come in future versions of the red panda.

Finally designated as verdict Firefox4 became a worthy competitor and we can now envision a better future to change the development cycle to 16 weeks and indeed I believe the version 3.X had been enough back and waiting for the new version was eternal, however here is The new Firefox ready for action.

Anyway this is one of many analysis and opinions that are emerging and as always, are subject to "some" subjectivity, in fact skip several things for which Firefox is really worth ,Beyond a tour of the Web, talk about tools, development, and greater freedom, among other things.

That's why I invite you to share your thoughts, I am sure many of you have already tested this new version and may even have been placed face to face with these two titans of navigation What have been your impressions so far? Have you managed to fully enter the race Firefox browser with this new version and its new upgrade cycle?

Displex, Compiz from the notification area

A time ago I told them about compiz, How to install and its useful extensions ...

... Anyway, There used to get fusion icon from the notification area to Compiz options. And still there, but we made small to such new option under our control. Among them, little by little the notification area disappears and is giving way to the Applet miniindicadores, making the former is obsolete.

So we have a good alternative called Displex. To install, go to their official site and download the installer from here.

You can access it from Applications/System Tools/Displex:

In general it has options like Fusion Icon, with new details added: display, integration with other software companies (Acer is an example), but all with the same ease of access you have Fusion Icon. And if you delete the applet Indicators (as was my case) do not worry, we pass directly to the Notification area

If you use Compiz and raisins steadily between activate and deactivate the effects, this extension you will like.

Internet Explorer 9 vs Firefox 4

Much has been said lately about the new internet explorer 9, Which broke records for downloads in the first week, which has a new interface, etc etc ... and probably at any time hasefroch people going to publish data that is the fastest, the safest, the most beautiful, etc etc. ... as always.

But Internet Explorer 9 is really a modern browser?

Let's look at these details and we will realize that Internet Explorer 9 is lower even than some older versions of Firefox.

More comparative data on the following image.

Install Wine 1.3.16 on Ubuntu [PPA]

Version 1.3.16 is available from Wine ,Application that allows the execution of Windows programs on GNU/Linux.

To install this release on Maverick, first add the PPA repository and validated by opening a Terminal and typing:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.3
or upgrade if you already have the PPA added to our sources:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Login in Linux with a USB memory

we will tell you how to order loguearnos with our linux pen drive. Login with a USB means that when you turn on the pc and get to the GDM, instead of putting the password of your user put a flash drive. For home use do not think this has much use, except to feel more geeks

Another thing you can do with this method is that each time you remove the flash drive automatically appears on screen saver, and then instead of putting password, you should put the pen drive to enter again.

But even so let's see how.

First install the needed packages:
apt-get install libpam-usb pamusb-tools
Connect the pen drive and add it to any name. Try to be the only pen drive connected. And by the way the data is not erased pendrive.
pamusb-conf –add-device token
Now we show a summary of the flash drive and make us a question, respond with 'Y'

Now add the user account associated with pendrive:
pamusb-conf –add-user youruser
We will return to display a summary and ask a question, answer 'Y'.

Can verify that the authentication works properly like this:
amusb-check youruser
If it says: Access Granted is because it's all right.
Now as sudo must edit /etc/pam.d/common-auth and add:
auth sufficient
Already, so they can log in using a pendrive linux. But you can do many more things, lock the pc as I said earlier, and even run certain commands (eg to make a backup) automatically when you connect the USB stick, etc. But that I leave you

Please note that this method does not add anything to your flash drive, simply records the data in the uuid and serial number, things can not be changed and copied to another pendrive.

Internet Explorer 10 accompany Windows 8

It's a rumor with some substance and coherence. Microsoft has just released version 9 of Internet Explorer and as usual after a launch, and you think the next evolution of the product. By logic and because it looks like it version 8 operating system may advance the launch date, See also the plans of the competition, in Redmond may have that intention.

The information comes from Win7China, Which has also filtering some of the first eight screenshots "Legitimate" Windows 8, so the rumor may be granted some credence, have shown that his sources are solid. IE10 also assert that already in Windows 8 M3, but this point has not been checked against other sources.

It also appears that version 10 of Internet Explorer would be destined for Windows 7 and Windows 8. Are there Vista hook? Another argument to give credence to this information is that there would be time to match the two releases, just over a year so that IE10 was mature enough to reach the consumer. News of this nature must be taken with healthy skepticism, we must be attentive.

Catfish, searching files on Linux

I do not like the default search engine that has Ubuntu. He finds nothing, so it takes me less searching by hand to using a search engine. Sometimes Synapse use the search box that works pretty well, but still fails. That's why I liked this program that really meets the mission of finding files on Ubuntu, using different search engines.

To install on Ubuntu writes :
sudo apt-get install catfish
For Fedora writes :
yum install catfish
You can access it from Applications/Accessories/Catfish:

You can make a selective search folder and choose the file extension you wish to search. Also included in the search for hidden files. And most importantly: It works great!

How to Install Firefox 4 in Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 10.10

Firefox 4 (stable version) will be released very soon and this post will show you how to install Firefox in Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 10.10.

1. Firefox Stable PPA provides the latest stable builds of Firefox for Ubuntu 9.10, Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 10.10

The PPA is a stable repository that will provide the latest stable version of Firefox 4.0. At the moment the PPA has no Build this version of Firefox, but when it comes out we can get the stable version from it.
You can add the PPA to your repositories, using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
sudo apt-get update
After that, if you installed a version of Firefox, you should get an update on the latest version of Firefox 4 when it is released.
If you do not want to wait until Firefox 4 is officially released and uploaded to the PPA, can install Firefox 4 RC using another PPA.

2. Firefox Next PPA: Firefox provides alpha / beta / RC builds for Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, 10.04 Lucid Lynx and 10.10 Maverick Meerkat.

This PPA is not stable, but this is better than Mozilla Daily PPA builds, because it provides us with the latest official versions alpha / beta / RC and not daily builds.
Add the PPA and install Firefox 4 RC 1 using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox-4.0

How to speed up Ubuntu

Ubuntu distro is probably the most widely used today but also "in my opinion"one of the slower and more things to improve after install ubuntu. I'll give these tips to help make the system Faster and we can work more comfortable.

Move the temporary directories to the memory

Move the /tmp to the memory because it is much faster than the disk and also caring for the record, especially if they have made the ubuntu installation on a netbook with SSD.

Should edit the /etc/fstab and add the following line:
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults,noexec,nosuid 0 0
Save the changes and restart the pc.

Install Preload

Preload is an application that intelligently pre-loaded into the memory files and applications they use. Because of this you may notice that the PC takes a little longer to boot but is just that, then noticed that everything is as it seems faster.
sudo apt-get install preload

Disable the services that we not use

In many cases all the time services are not used and are constantly consumiento memory and processor. Classic examples: apache and mysql, for example to disable mysql run the following command:
sudo update-rc.d mysql remove
Disable autorun applications

There are several applications that are not normally used and still start when starting the pc. You can see them in System-> Tools-> Applications to start.

Change the way you use the Swap

Like as I said with respect to /tmp if possible not to use the disk and memory use in place then we should do it, because disk accesses are slow.

If you have 2, 3 or 4GB of Ram probably do not need hardly any Swap. Will not make that error that says "Swap should be twice the ram"

Enter /etc/sysctl.conf and change the following line (add if not exist):
The value assigned to your system will tell you which is the probability that use Swap, is a value between 0 and 100. If you have less than 1GB of RAM should change that value to 40 or 50 to use but the swap.

After modifying the file should run
sudo sysctl -p
for the changes are carried out correctly.

These are small tips but surely help many.

Linux kernel 2.6.38, faster and more support for graphics and Wi-Fi

After ten weeks of work the team led by Linus Torvalds, already have with us a new version of the Linux kernel, Linux 2.6.38 is a version that promises higher speed thanks to some adjustments, including the famous patch 200 lines of code, and have added new drivers for graphics and Wi-Fi and added support for the new AMD Fusion chips, among many other features are summarized below.

As overtook, in this version has improved automatic grouping processes by patch 223 lines of code developed by Mike Galbraith in November last year. In essence, the patch changes the way the scheduler assigns CPU time to each process so that the system can group all the processes with the same session ID. This, under certain scenarios an enormous additional performance delivered by the evidence.

Another change is related improvements VFS scalability (Virtual File System), Which has made both of workloads such as multi-thread loads some unique processes, are much faster. On the other side to Btrfs adds transparent compression support for the LZO algorithm, as an alternative to zlib and adding support to mark snapshots read-only and the feature "force mounting".

Another improvement is related “Transparent Huge Pages", Which will use pages up to 2MB of memory to process (Being hitherto 4KB), which is done to better exploit the hardware and achieve a "higher performance, especially in workloads that require a large amount of memory as servers and database JVM" as you said Tim Burke, vice president of engineering for Red Hat Linux.

It also add the proactive routing protocol for Ad-hoc Mesh Networking Wireless: B.A.T.M.A.N. (Better Approach To Mobile Ad-hoc Networking), which in practice will help provide network connectivity in the presence of natural disasters, military conflicts or censorship of the Internet thanks to this protocol allows the network to function as a mesh where each node routing involved in forwarding data to other nodes dynamically.

And finally we can emphasize hardware support as always, increases version to kernel version. With regard to this is very good to know that added support for the new AMD Fusion, Which of course combines CPU and GPU into a single unit (APU), and the inclusion of new graphics drivers for NVidia GPUs and AMD ,has also added better support for Wi-Fi cards like Atheros, Broadcom, Intel, and Ralink Realtek , etc.

That among many other changes have been made "in record time". You can see more details in link, If you want you can also download the new kernel from here or wait patiently to be included in a future version of your favorite distro.

Second beta version of GNOME 3

The team responsible for the GNOME Project has announced the launch of the second and final beta version of GNOME 3.0. In this second beta is followed by a release candidate to arrive on 23 March, after which we will have with us the final version GNOME 3.0 on 6 April.

GNOME 3.0 Beta 2 (Or GNOME 2.91.91, as developers call it) includes changes to stabilize this desktop environment, plus correct errors and problems detected in previous versions.

According to the developers, this version has many features and "frozen" so that will be very similar to what we finally see. As usual with these versions of development, not recommended for use in production environments, but it certainly is an interesting way to see how they work both GNOME 3 as its interface, GNOME Shell.

You can find more details on the version in the notes of the kernel of the environment and in the notes relating to applications. And of course if you urge You can download the beta and compilaros as indicated in the notice on the developer mailing list.

Mozilla release Firefox 4 on 22 March

After a series of delays, the Mozilla project released Firefox version 4.0, on 22 March. Firefox 4 is the next generation web browser based on version 2.0 of the platform of Gecko rendering (the branch of Firefox 3.6 uses Gecko 1.9.2) and has a new add-ons manager and an API management extension, and design a new 'cloud on top. Sicor states that developers continue to look for flaws that could prevent the final release, and a second version candidate would be published "as soon as possible" and the release date would be reset. However, to date the first RC has "received a very warm welcome," said Sicor.

Firefox binaries are distributed under the Software License Agreement for users of Mozilla Firefox and the source code is distributed under choice of three licenses that includes the Mozilla Public License, GPLv2 and LGPLv2.1. How to exploit the new features of IE9 on your site

On Monday officially presented new Internet Explorer 9 and promises to be "revolutionary" but do not think he gets a Chrome or Firefox, but I wanted to tell a tool llamdo IE9 Creator ,That allows us to adapt our web site to be compatible with IE9 and able to use its new features.

Some of the features that can be exploited by adding meta tags generated by this program are the ability to control the color of the sailing dates of IE9, add Jumplists the icon of the window, control the window size, etc..

Its use is very simple, we just fill in the fields of name, the tooltip that is coming when we move the mouse on the icon of the browser, the homepage, the window size, the color of the navigation arrows , etc.

Once we finished with that we give to the button Generate and Copy to Clipboard to copy the metatags that will have to hit just under the tag <head> of the site.

openSUSE 11.4 ready for combat

Already here openSUSE 11.4 ,one of the most important releases of the year as far as GNU/Linux distributions relates, and pending the analysis, we will pre-heat a little room with the typical post-installation guide, specially dedicated to new users, to make this version ready for combat.

First, the usual recommended quarantine after the release of any distribution (to prevent errors) seems to openSUSE 11.4 and the past, because it shows fast and very stable. Sure is something, always something ,But seen and tested so far in GNOME and KDE versions is of note.

Second, extras repositories are available from before launch (Never seen), so that the availability of the most popular packages, and many more, is from now on a few clicks away.

Installing the system is as simple as expected, but options do vary with the Live CD or DVD, The latter being the recommended option for most users, among other things.

With the system already installed for the first time on the desktop, first thing is to upgrade your computer. It can be done much faster by using zypper console, but let's do it visually with Via the YaST Online Update.

As we shall see, the concept "out of the box" is very present in openSUSE after the first update of rigor already have Flash Player, MP3, translations and dictionaries the language you have chosen as default, many extra packages, etc. (if we ask to restart, it restarts).

It is time to return to YaST and enable the extra software repositories. The process is as simple as you can see below:

Repositories to enable depend on our choice of desktop and software needs (We can activate the GNOME repositories although we use KDE to have more applications available and vice versa), using an NVIDIA graphics card, but there are some common to all users as Contrib, Packman or libdvdcss.

Once activated the repositories, there are more updates available and although it could do everything a little more "cold" towards errors to ensure the approach to a reliable system, we go step by step.

For example, if my graphic card is NVIDIA, after this update we will have the proprietary drivers installed, But it should at least restart the graphical server for changes.

Now, let complete extra support packages, with special attention to the multimedia section ,With a click (the next action you must do it from Firefox, Eye)

There. Do you need more applications? The software manager! Or with One Click Install.

Tip: Solution to Bug in Flash on YouTube

How to Enable graphic acceleration on Chrome 10

This week has been published stable version of Chrome 10. This version allows the option to enable graphics acceleration, allowing the CPU is released from the work of rendering graphics such as images or videos, passing them to the GPU (Graphics processor card).

What should we do to enable this option? Just follow these steps:
  1. Key in about:flags in the address bar
  2. Enable the following options:
  • GPU Accelerated Compositing
  • GPU Accelerated Canvas 2D
And with that we would have enabled the graphics acceleration, as it allows Firefox 4.0

How To install ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Linux

ESET has released a final version of the MacOS X of NOD32 antivirus, and for GNU/Linux is in the process (for now, is currently in beta).

They have released these versions for Mac and Linux in particular to protect Windows computers, as is spreading the use of Linux on netbooks and this leads to that when things are passed from one to another, get virus from Linux to Windows (Linux being immune to these.)

Installation is simple and guided in the style of Windows programs where you choose options.

Download the file:
$ wget
We execute permissions:
$ chmod 764 ueav.i386.en.linux
And finally run the installer and follow the steps:
$ ./ueav.i386.en.linux
I have not stopped to change the settings, I accepted the default coming, but what if I changed was the username and password and I put one of mine.

The program can be found at Applications > System Tools.

The Compiz cube in danger of extinction

The famous desktop cube made us hallucinate many more than ever in video and pictures before entering the Linux world, probably gone forever.

And with the arrival of GNOME 3 and its new manager Mutter ,Compiz was beginning to get out of the next Linux desktops ,at least that would use GNOME Shell. But Canonical incorporates the development of Compiz for distribution to integrate it into in Unity, which brought the powerful window manager back to the game.

But as we have shown in the aforementioned article, one of the plugins Most Popular and striking the manager, Cube Desktop, no longer be enabled on Ubuntu 11.04 and probably never will, Since this "error", it was only marked as an opinion and its use as a bad idea in Unity.

Yes, I know, for all practical purposes, the use of Compiz cube is irrelevant at this stage of the game, to say the least, but hey, it was all pride and eventually, was a sign that the revolution had come to Linux graphics.

In short, the future of this viral cube, an accomplice of income for many new users to Linux, Canonical is left, that being honest, not many practical reasons to maintain this performance in Unity. Anyway, I hope to be given a new opportunity to the hub or otherwise would be the farewell of a dramatic impact that undoubtedly marked an era.

I will forgive KDE users do not allude to the cube of Kwin, but the Compiz cube was the subject of many viral videos that swarmed on the principle of using 3D effects in Linux, has a certain historical sense more than anything. Indeed, in KDE you can still use this effect without problems .

Hotot 0.9.6, adds extended mode

Hotot is coupled with Oriole -To my taste, one of the best twitter client for GNU/Linux  being the second choice of who writes, in the case of Hotot the application is for version 0.9.6 and has updates almost daily.

One of the advantages I see of Oriole on Hotot is that the former had an extended mode style Tweetdeck which is very comfortable when viewing your Timeline, the Terms and direct messages, all in a single window.

In today Hotot has been updated and this update was a change in the interface and can now see three columns in the same window.

In the first screenshot you can the public timeline, references and direct messages, but you can choose to see, for example, if you click on the box mentions, see this column and the two that follow to the right, that would be the DM and the RT column.

Definitely a good change that many (including me Hotot 0.9.6, adds extended mode) will be welcome.

To install Hotot on Ubuntu you just have to add the PPA repository from a terminal :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jimmyxu/hotot
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install hotot

Adobe Flash Player 10.3 Beta, also for Linux

Adobe developers seem to follow with due regard to Linux users, despite a scare in the past, because have published a new preliminary version of its Flash technology.

Adobe Flash Player 10.3 Beta is now available simultaneously for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, and the question is: Is this version interesting for Linux users?

It appears that Flash Player 10.3 has been improved do this paragraph, and in the vague release notes simply said something about VDPAU support for NVIDIA. Or what is the same: if you have a GeForce of series 8 or higher and you use the proprietary drivers, you will continue being able to enjoy the hardware acceleration. If not, nothing will change depending on the CPU.

The sad thing is that even Gnash Flash Player supports VA-API. we recall that Adobe is working on it safe, although this support may -Ideal for users of Intel's integrated graphics chipsets, very popular in laptops and netbooks - not available to Flash Player 10.4.

Can Download Adobe Flash Player 10.3 Beta from Download page of Adobe Labs.

Ubuntu 11.10 will be called 'Oneiric Ocelot’

Mark Shuttleworth announced Official name for Ubuntu 11.10, which will be called 'Oneiric Ocelot' -Nearly matches the rumors-. The literal translation of that name would be "Ocelot dream" and how that name always follows the rule of going on a progression of the alphabet that are happening in every version.

Now it was the "O" that follows Natty Narwhal, And that name seems to want to emphasize certain goals to be achieved. As Shuttleworth himself said,
Dreaming means" dreamer "and the combination with the Ocelot reminds me of the way in which innovation occurs: part daydreaming, and some discipline.
Is expected to be offered such complete experiences both in the case of the 3D experience with OpenGL as a 2D experience ,And also see the integration of Qt on Ubuntu and may even see some of them pre-installed and running natively.

About 40 security problems discovered in the kernel of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

Have been discovered nearly 40 vulnerabilities in the Linux Ubuntu 10.04 kernel (Lucid Lynx) version LTS (Long Time Support) of this distribution of GNU/Linux. Kubuntu, Edubuntu and Xubuntu with the same number, are also affected.

Some of these problems are related in the way the "Common Internet File System (CIFS) valid packets ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol), allowing a Denial of Service (DOS).

It was also discovered a security hole in NFSv4 (Network File System v4) that would allow an attacker to gain administrative privileges. A total of nine vulnerabilities have been identified that give root privileges and 14 that lead to denial of service.

Others are related to improper checking privileges and the restricting file "read-only" that in a multi-user environment can affect, among other issues, privacy. In the article link at the bottom you have the complete list of vulnerabilities published by Ubuntu.

As usual in GNU/Linux, these problems are detected and corrected quickly. There are already patches to address these vulnerabilities and simply to update.
